What To Watch This Weekend With Kids And Family June 21-June 23, 2024: No Time To Spy, Inside Out 2 and more

Not a lot of new stuff this weekend, but if you haven’t seen it, it’s new to you!
WHO’S THERE? – In Disney and Pixar’s “Inside Out 2,” Joy (voice of Amy Poehler), Sadness (voice of Phyllis Smith), Anger (voice of Lewis Black), Fear (voice of Tony Hale) and Disgust (voice of Liza Lapira) aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety (voice of Maya Hawke) shows up unexpectedly. It’s a pretty light weekend both on the streamers and in movie theaters this time around. But the big story here continues to be Inside Out 2, which might end up being the biggest animated movie of all time. Wild! If you haven’t seen it yet, yes, it’s still in theaters, and probably will be for months to come. Particularly with showings selling out everywhere, and temperatures rising all over the country, this might be the right weekend to sit it out at home in the AC, instead of heading to a packed theater. But don’t tell Pixar I said that.

Theatrically, you can still check out The Garfield Movie and IF, er, if you haven’t done so yet. Meanwhile, on the streaming front, there’s the Doctor Who finale tonight. Word of warning: the series has been getting a little more “end of the world stakes!!” level heading into this episode, including a villain who is literally Death, so versus the “this is great for kids!” place the season started, it’s possible we might be in for some scares and heartbreak this week.

The only really big new release is No Time To Spy: A Loud House Movie, the third in a series of spinoffs from the original show, but the first to head to Paramount+ instead of Netflix. Sorry, Netflix lovers, you’re going to have to enjoy a mountain of entertainment, instead.

Even with the scarcity of new stuff,  let’s get into the rundown of what’s new to watch with kids and family this weekend.

NEW TO STREAMING ON DISNEY+, NETFLIX, PRIME VIDEO, HULU, MAX:

No Time To Spy: A Loud House Movie

The Loud family goes full on 007 in this new animated flick, after their secret agent Grandma gets taken by an evil organization. In addition to Paramount+, this will air at 7pm ET on Nickelodeon, if you want to watch live with the whole family.

Where to Stream: Paramount+

Doctor Who

Tonight’s season finale is titled “Empire of Death” and –  spoilers past this point – finds The Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and his allies battling the god of death, who has taken over the world. Yikes! The episode should also wrap up the ongoing mystery of Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson) as we make way for a new companion next season. This streams starting at 7 pm ET.

Where to stream: Disney+

My Adventures With Superman

My Adventures With Superman Season 2 has been heating up in a big way with the introduction of Supergirl in the previous episode. In this week’s sixth episode, “The Machine Who Would Be Empire,” we’re going to finally meet the new Brainiac, this season’s big bad. The show airs Saturdays at Midnight on Adult Swim, before streaming Sundays on Max.

Where to stream: Max

IN THEATERS:

Inside Out 2

The Pixar sequel has been an enormous hit, and it probably won’t stop any time soon. Full disclosure: I haven’t seen it with my family yet, because it’s been sold out every time we try to get tickets. So yeah, book yours early! Don’t suffer the Anxiety my fam has been dealing with.

The Garfield Movie

This is also still in theaters, so if you get sold out at Inside Out 2 I guess you could do worse than seeing Garfield again?

IF

Ryan Reynolds and Cailey Fleming star as a man and a girl (descriptive, I know) who team up to help pair a bunch of sad, lonely imaginary friends with new children. The John Krasinski written and directed film stars a slew of big names from Steve Carrell, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and more.
