3 scary movies to get your kids into horror

If you have a love for horror, you’ll want to share that with your kids. Of course, you can’t throw them into the world of Scream and Saw. You need to find age-appropriate scary movies.

There is something for all age ranges to get them ready for something a little scarier and gorier as they get older. We’ll start with a tamer option for the younger kids and work up to something for the teens and tweens.

Haunted Mansion

There are two versions of Haunted Mansion on Disney+ and both of them are great. They both tell a very similar story, and it’s one for all ages. Once you’ve watched it, get ready for the kids to want to go on the ride at Disney World.

Haunted Mansion focuses on what the title suggests: a mansion with ghosts. These ghosts are not willing to leave. It’s their home, and you either live with them or leave. Well, our main character in both of the movies is not willing to do either, and they call in all sorts of experts to help get rid of the spirits with hilarious and sometimes scary results.

Haunted Mansion is on Disney+.

Nightbooks

If you’re looking for something a little more grown up, Nightbooks is the movie to check out next. This is great for tweens and teens and brings on a tale that involves witches and scary stories, within the story.

Alex has to tell a scary story every night. If he fails to do so, he will end up trapped in a witch’s magical apartment with his new friend. The witch Natacha has kidnapped children in the past, and she mysteriously gets rid of them when they no longer become useful to her. Can Alex break free from the world that he has landed himself in by accident?

Nightbooks is available to stream on Netflix.

Five Nights at Freddy’s

The newest movie on the list is one that is based on a video game. It’s also one that was highly anticipated and did not disappoint. This is live-action with animatronics and a deeper story than initially meets the eye.

The movie follows Mike, a man who struggles to sleep and keep down a job. When he’s offered the opportunity to work at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria, he doesn’t want it as it means working nights. However, he ends up having to take it. What he doesn’t realize is that this job will take over his life—and maybe even end it. It also may have the answers to the mysteries of his past.
