Pixar has scored its new director for the third film in the Incredibles franchise!
A new director, Peter Sohn, has been tapped for Incredibles 3, as The Hollywood Reporter reported recently. The veteran filmmaker will take over the role from Brad Bird, who directed the first two Incredibles movies. Bird also wrote Incredibles 3.
Disney-Pixar is currently developing Incredibles 3. The movie will bring fans up to speed on what superhero Bob Parr, aka Mr.Incredible, his wife Helen, and their kids have been up to since we last saw them in the 2018 sequel, Incredibles 2. It closed with the family pursuing yet another city-threatening foe.
While we don't know the gist of Incredibles 3's storyline, we can expect lots more heroic action from the Parrs. I don't know about you, but I'd love to see the focus spotlighted on the kids—Violet, Dash, and, lastly, Jack-Jack. Their powers combined could take down anyone, and as Jack-Jack's were coming into light in the sequel, it's only natural to see what will come of them.
We were first introduced to Bob and his family in 2004, when the first The Incredibles rolled out and fans enjoyed the thematics and value embedded in it. It was also a Block Office hit, taking in nearly $632 million globally after its theatrical run in 2005
Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter are expected to return as Bob Parr, Helen, and Samuel L. Jackson as Lucius Best. Pixar hadn't announced the release date for Incredibles 3, but it was marked as "Coming Soon" during its presentation at the D23 Expo ceremony last year. We're hoping for a late 2026 or 2027 premiere, as if a wait is too long, then it's often forgotten about, and interest is lost.
Sohn is no stranger to Pixar, as he has worked on its previous films. Sohn contributed to the Incredibles, Brave, Ratatouille, Monsters University, Lightyear, and several more. 2015's The Good Dinosaur was his directorial debut for Pixar, and he also directed the 2023 sleeper hit, Elemental, which was based on his childhood and told the story of the unlikely pairing of fire and water..
Elemental managed to claim several award nominations including Best Animated Feature at the 2024 Academy Awards and the 2024 Golden Globes.
Will Incredibles 3 live up to the success of its predecessors? We'll just have to see what power it will hold when it debuts!
