As you may remember, another Dr. Seuss book is getting an adaptation. Oh, the Places You’ll Go is going to be an animated musical movie with Jon M. Chu directing it.
Finding the right leads for this musical adaptation was always going to be a must. As a musical movie, it would mean finding people with strong voices, and that’s exactly what’s happened with the recent casting.
Warner Bros. shared on their social media pages that Wicked’s Ariana Grande and Frozen’s Josh Gad will join the movie as the leads. The two have proven to have voices suitable for leading musicals, and with original songs in the movie, that’s more important than ever.
Grande was last spotted in Wicked, where she played Galinda, also known in Wizard of Oz as Glinda, the Good Witch of the North. Wicked tells us the story of Elphaba, and how society set her up to be the villain of the story despite her originally having no ill will toward anybody. Wicked Part 2, now titled Wicked: For Good, will be released in theaters in November 2025, where Grande will reprise her role to continue the story.
Meanwhile, Gad has been spotted in plenty of big productions in recent years. One of his most well-known characters has to be Olaf in Frozen, but he has also starred in Wolf Like Me, Beauty and the Beast, and Avenue 5. He has been cast in Spaceballs 2 and the newest Meet the Parents movie in the franchise, which will see Ben Stiller and Robert de Niro return.
Oh, the Places You’ll Go is coming to theaters in 2028
There is a long wait for Oh, the Places You'll Go, though. It will be released in IMAX and theaters on March 17, 2028. This is great news really, as it means there is plenty of time to get the music and the script just right.
After all, this is a major adaptation. Oh, the Places You’ll Go was Dr. Seuss’s last published book, released in 1990. Just a year later, the author passed away at the age of 87. It follows a young adventurer who is trying to navigate the ups and downs of life.
If you don’t want to wait so long for a Dr. Seuss adaptation, there is some great news. Warner Bros. is also working on the adaptation of Cat in the Hat again. This new adaptation will see Bill Hader voice the titular lead, and it’s set to be released on Feb. 27, 2026.
