There have been plenty of animated releases for My Little Pony, but like so many other animated shows and movies, it’s time for a live-action masterpiece. The Hasbro toy is the latest to get a live-action movie.
As of right now, there is very little known about the movie. It doesn’t have a creative team attached, and there is no release window to speak of. That being said, it’s sure to be a movie that kids will love. Now you just have to avoid getting the theme tune stuck in your head! Jeff Sneider initially reported the movie, but didn't go into too many details.
My Little Pony is in the works with Hasbro and Amazon MGM working together
While there isn’t a creative team attached, Hasbro has worked out a deal with Amazon MGM to make a My Little Pony movie possible, according to Variety. Amazon MGM has been a major player behind multiple movies, including just recently landing the creative rights to the James Bond franchise.
It makes sense for Amazon MGM to work on such a big project. After all, it managed to bring a live-action Fallout series that captured the hearts of new fans and the fans of the original games. Amazon has also found major success in the development of book adaptations such as Reacher and Cross.
There are no story details for the My Little Pony movie, as there’s no creative team just yet. There are plenty of adventures for the magical ponies to go on, and there are plenty of lessons for children to learn.

This is just the first live-action My Little Pony movie. The toys, which date back to 1982, have been the subject of multiple animated TV shows and movies. One of the most recent was My Little Pony: A New Generation, which was set for a theatrical release from Paramount, which had to be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Netflix ended up scoring the rights to release the movie, and it was a huge success with families, especially families with young girls. The pony toys did become more popular with girls rather than boys, so that’s not too surprising. My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic saw a boost in teenage boys and young men falling in love with the creatures, challenging the gender stereotypes around the toys.
This is just the latest toy from Hasbro to get a live-action movie. Dungeons and Dragons was one of the big ones recently, and Magic: The Gathering is currently in the works. The CW just recently had TV shows centered around the popular board games Trivial Pursuit and Scrabble, and there are sure to be many more to come!
It's not even the only company working on live-action versions of animated movies and games. Mattel brought us the Barbie movie, while Nintendo is working on a live-action Legend of Zelda movie. Then we have the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise success. Now I just challenge you to go the rest of the day without singing My Little Pony.
