A new month has started and with that comes new kids movies to watch. There are some great options to check out across the streaming networks, with Netflix being a firm favorite due to the size of the catalogue.
These movies are perfect for family movie night. Some of them will teach great lessons about the Earth and life, while others are purely forms of entertainment to make the entire family laugh. With so many streamers and movies, though, it can be difficult to choose something. That’s why we’ve picked out the four best kids movies on Netflix and streaming in May.
The Wild Robot
While not necessarily new to streaming, this is new to Netflix, and it’s a must-watch with the children. The Wild Robot follows a robot that lands on Earth, in a place where there are new humans around. The animals believe that this robot is a monster, and when she accidentally kills the mother of a young gosling, she ends up becoming its mother and teaching it how to do the essentials to be able to flee the land before winter.
It ends up with a beautiful story about found families and how it takes a village to raise children. There’s a story about determination and not underestimating people and creatures because of their size or limitations. You’ll also have a focus on the cycle of life, as it’s not all sunshine and rainbows, especially when winter hits.
The Wild Robot will be on Netflix on May 25.
Babe
Okay, this movie isn’t “new” but it’s likely new to a lot of children in the house. I remember someone telling me that you can tell the generation someone comes from when you say “That’ll do” and they either end it with “Pig” or “Donkey.” Babe is one of those must-watch classics, and it’s heading to streaming this month!
I don’t think you need an introduction, but just in case you missed the 1995 movie when it came out, it follows a pig who is the runt of the litter and doesn’t show to be the type of pig the farmer needs for his family. Then it starts to herd sheep, and so the farmer decides it may be worth putting this pig into a sheep herding competition, which naturally, raises some eyebrows. There are certainly lessons in not allowing us to be put in a box.
Babe is available to stream on Prime Video on May 1 (and the sequel is there too!).
Dog Man
How about an actual new movie? Dog Man came out in early 2025, and it immediately became the movie all kids wanted to watch. And yes, this is a success with those who love the graphic novels and those who haven’t read them at all! So, it was exciting news to learn that it would be added to a streaming service in May.
Dog Man follows a cop and his K-9 best friend who end up in an accident that causes them to be joined together. With the body of a man and a head of a dog, Dog Man ends up fighting crime in an attempt to take down Petey the Cat, who is Dog Man’s archnemesis.
We just have to wait until the end of May for Dog Man. It’s coming to Peacock on May 30.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
Finally, it’s time to turn to an animated superhero movie, as Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse arrives on streaming. This is the latest addition to the Spider-Verse franchise, and it sees Miles Morales back into the multiverse with Gwen Stacy.
There are far more Spider-People than Miles initially learned about. Now the heroes need to figure out how to deal with the latest threat, and of course, they all have different ideas. This is a great lesson in how to work as a team when sometimes you all want to be leaders! For Miles, it means learning what it means to truly be a hero when saving the people you love the most.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is on Disney+ on May 1.
