If you love psychological thrillers and Pete Davidson, then The Home is the next movie for you. This is one of those thrillers that offers Davidson a chance to break free a little from the comedic roles he’s known for, although there are some humorous moments throughout.
The Home follows Davidson as Max, a troubled man who gets a job at a retirement home. It’s supposed to be a simple job, but he soon learns that the residents and caretakers are all a little quirky. They have sinister secrets, and the more he looks into them, the more he is in danger.
On top of that, he learns more and more about his own past. Is it possible that he’s somehow connected to the forbidden fourth floor?

The Home age rating: Explaining the R rating
It shouldn’t be that surprising that the psychological horror holds an R rating, which means it’s aimed at those 18 and over. Canada and the UK agree with this, and really, it’s only Ukraine that has set a 16 age rating.
Sex & nudity: There is one scene that focuses on two people wearing leather masks while having sex. While no nudity is shown, it’s clear what they are supposed to be doing.
Violence & gore: This is arguably where The Home earns its R rating. There are some graphic scenes of violence, including a character having their limbs severed and a man being disemboweled. This is something that you would expect out of Game of Thrones or American Horror Story, rather than a movie starring Davidson!
You will notice that there is a poster of a needle near an eye. This is taken from a scene in the movie, giving you a clear indication of the level of gore you should expect. The gore is on the level of what could be considered “torture porn” by many people.
Language: As you would expect with a movie that’s full of gore, there is also some harsh language. The F-bomb is dropped multiple times, and c********r is also used on a regular basis. There are a few milder swear words, including the S-word and B-words used throughout.
Alcohol & drugs: Surprisingly, there isn’t too much of this, but the main characters smokes regularly.
Overall verdict: Who is The Home appropriate for?
This is one of those movies that will have a lot of stomachs turning while watching. The graphic violence and gore are something that will turn people off, and they make The Home unsuitable for children. Even older teens are likely to find this too much.
Once this comes to streaming, I’d be careful watching it when children can walk in. There are very few safe places to pause!
The Home is available in theaters as a limited release.
