When it comes to movies, there are certain genres that become family-inclusive events. Anything that involves superheroes tends to be one of them, so when Superman flew back to cinemas, it seemed only natural that the whole family could go to see it.
Of course, with productions like The Boys, it’s usually best to err on the side of caution. The 2025 Superman is created by James Gunn, who has also been behind The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, and those aren’t necessarily the best options for younger members of the family.
What about the All-American superhero, though? This is going to be a movie for the majority of ages out there!

Superman age rating: Explaining the PG-13 age rating
Like so many other iterations of the iconic alien superhero, Superman (2025) is officially rated PG-13. This means that it is considered suitable for teens and up without too many issues, and those younger than 13 could watch it with parental guidance. Most of the time, those who are seven and up will find a lot to love about PG-13 movies, especially in the superhero genre.
Sex & nudity: There are a few sexual references made here and there, but nothing to be too concerned about. At one point, there are prostitutes trying to gain business, and this could raise some questions from some younger children. However, the sex and nudity are on the mild side throughout the flick.
Violence & gore: When it comes to superhero movies, there is one thing that we can expect: fight scenes. That’s certainly the case with the latest Superman, and there are a few times that we see bloody injuries and burn marks on people.
A lot of the fight scenes involve CGI, as they are through the use of laser beams and energy blasts. Think of every other movie featuring Superman that you’ve seen. You know his powers, and so do the children! These types of movies always have unrealistic fight scenes because they use alien technology or superpowers.
There is one scene that could be considered disturbing, which includes a character who turns his body into acid and spits out that acid. The aftermath is visible on the screen for some time, including a rather graphic look at what happens with acid.
Language: There are numerous uses of the S-word, B-words, D-word, and many others. The F-bomb isn’t dropped, though, so it could be considered moderate use of language. However, the middle finger is used now and then.
Alcohol & drugs: While the young version of Clark Kent is referred to as a party animal who likes to get drunk, we don’t see much of that on the screen! This is mild compared to some of the superhero movies out there, which usually consist of parties and galas for raising money.
Overall verdict: Who is Superman appropriate for?
Overall, this is still a movie that’s great for the whole family. The fight scenes are over the top and use a lot of CGI, but I think that’s what a lot of people have come to love and expect from this genre of movies.
While the world of superheroes has started to get a little darker, James Gunn knows his audience. Teens are going to love Superman, and I’d be comfortable watching it with my nine-year-old (if she was actually interested in it!).
Superman is available in theaters.
