Hearing that there would be a fourth Sonic the Hedgehog movie was already exciting. Now we know that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will hit theaters in spring 2027.

It was the season I expected. I’m just glad that we already have a date because I have two daughters who are extremely excited to see the next part of the movie—and boy, do they have theories based on how the third movie ended!

Deadline has announced that the Paramount Pictures movie, which is now owned by Skydance, will head to theaters on March 19, 2027. Okay, so it means just over a two-year wait, but we know the installment is going to be worth it. We also had an idea that we’d need to wait this long based on how long we’ve had to wait for other movies in the franchise.

The date so far is a good one. By marking the date, it forces other studios to either look at other dates during a hot time of the year for movies or run the risk of competing with it.

So far, Universal Pictures has a movie coming out the same weekend. This movie is an untitled one, which means that the studio could choose to move it to another weekend if it doesn’t feel like Sonic is something to compete against. Other big titles are set for later in the year, including Frozen 3 and Avengers: Secret Wars.

We know the fourth movie in this franchise will be big for the fans. It’s one of those family movies that offers something for everyone. Plus, the franchise has done a great job of bringing the lore from the games and other cartoons. The third movie is highest-grossing installment in the franchise so far, so eyes will be on the fourth.

There are no details on the fourth movie. So far, no director (Jeff Fowler has directed the three so far) or cast has been set, but there are a few faces (and voices) that we’re expecting. We can’t have Sonic the Hedgehog without Ben Schwartz and James Marsden. We also expect Idris Elba to return to voice Knuckles at the very least.

What about Keanu Reeves to return as Shadow? Well, the character did survive at the end of the season, which opens the door for that.

One who didn’t seem to survive was Dr. Robotnik. This could suggest that Jim Carrey is out, but we’ll need to wait and see. There are always ways to bring back Dr. Robotnik, right?

The big question mark is over who will voice Amy. She turned up at the very end of the previous movie through the end-credit scene. It looks like she’ll play a bigger role in the fourth movie.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is out in theaters on March 19, 2027.
