It’s time for another Sonic the Hedgehog movie. Of course, the kids want to see Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in theaters to match the experiences of the first two movies. Now you need to know if it’s suitable for them.

It would be strange if the movie wasn’t suitable. This is more than just a continuation of the previous two movies with a mixture of live-action and computer graphics. There’s also the Knuckles series on Paramount+, which is part of the universe. You’ll want to watch that with the kids to catch up on all things Knuckles since he is part of this third movie.

Sonic joins with Knuckles and Tails to take down Shadow, the biggest and toughest enemy Sonic has ever had to face. They’ll also need to work with someone unexpected to be able to save the planet.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 age rating: Explaining the PG rating

In some great news, this movie is most definitely suitable for the kids. At least, officially it is. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is just like the other two installments and is officially rated PG.

PG means that those seven and up are definitely fine to watch. It can be great for some younger kids, but this is where the parental guidance element comes in. Think of it a little like a TV-7 TV show.

Sex & nudity: There are a few jokes that are added in for the adults. They are mostly suggestive comments, such as one line that references BDSM and another talking about “manscaping.” These are sure to go over the heads of younger children. There is nothing physical ever shown on the screen.

Violence & gore: The violence is where this movie, like the other two, earn its PG ratings. There are some scenes that give us all the characters fighting, but they don’t leave a blood trail. Think of things like the game-style kicks and punches when the good guys are fighting the bad guys.

Laser guns are used a lot throughout the movie. There are also a couple of deaths that occur, which can open up some conversations with the children.

Language: There is some mild profanity throughout. The term “b*****d” is used once, along with hell and damn. Those are the worst of the words.

Alcohol & drugs: Nothing is shown within this category.

Overall verdict: Who is Sonic the Hedgehog 3 suitable for?

If your kids have watched the first two movies and love them, then you’ll want to put this one on as well. It’s perfect for them all.

There are some scary moments with the battles. However, this is one of those standard family movies where it is a happy ending at the end. Of course, there are also lessons to learn about teamwork and compassion.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is now out in theaters.
