There is a lot of controversy surrounding Disney’s live-action of Snow White, but kids don’t care about that. They see a story that they know, and they want to see it in theaters. The question isn’t about whether you want to see it, too. It’s about whether the movie is appropriate for them in terms of graphic violence and nudity shown.

Snow White tells the story of Disney’s 1937 version of the fairy tale. It’s the classic tale of the Evil Queen finding out that her stepdaughter is viewed as being more beautiful than her, so she goes out on a mission to kill the princess. This leads to Snow White being led to the woods to be killed by The Huntsman, only for him to allow her to escape.

It’s a story of survival, love, vanity, and empathy. There’s a lot to learn from the various characters, and these lessons are great for the children in spite of all the controversy outside of the movie itself.

Snow White age rating: Explaining the PG movie

This movie is officially rated PG, which means that it is suitable for most children. Those who are seven and older will find it fine for the most part, but it may not quite be as great for the younger viewers. You’ll definitely want to go see it with them.

Sex & nudity: It’s a Disney movie made for children. There isn’t any sex or nudity shown throughout this live-action remake.

Violence & gore: There are some mild scenes of violence. In one scene, a man is shot with a crossbow, and there is a little bit of blood shown after that. The camera doesn’t stay on it for long, though.

There are some well-choreographed sword-fighting scenes, but none of them involve any stabbings or blood. If you think of the sword scene from the classic Sleeping Beauty or the fight scene in Beauty and the Beast, then you’ll get an idea of what to expect.

Of course, there are some mentions of Snow White’s heart being cut out by the Evil Queen. It’s not like that isn’t in the original, though, right?

Language: There isn’t any heavy cursing in this movie, although one dwarf does say “damn it” while fighting. The language is used in a child-appropriate way, but you know as adults what they would really like to say. Disney does get a good balance in that.

Alcohol & drugs: There is no use of either in this movie. Of course, there is the infamous apple that Snow White takes a bite of, so that’s something to keep in mind. Remember the original Disney story!

Overall verdict: Who is Snow White appropriate for?

This is one of those movies that’s great for the entire family. Children who love the classic tale will certainly want to check out the live-action remake. There’s plenty of song and dance throughout, and many of the themes are just the same.

When it comes to the children, they don’t care about the controversy. They just want to see a story they know and love come to life again.

Snow White is available in theaters right now.
