Wish is now free to stream on Disney+
Great news for those of us who like to really think about our wishes: Wish, the theatrical animated feature from Walt Disney Animation, is now streaming free on Disney+.
In case you – like me – missed it the first time around, the movie was released on November 22, 2023, in theaters, and was a critical and box-office disappointment. In total, it grossed $254.2 million on a reported $175-200 million budget and had a not exactly wish-worthy 48% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes.
But honestly? Who cares! I don’t care. I need new movies to feed my hungry children, and Wish will definitely do the job. It stars Ariana DeBose as the voice of Asha, a girl who teams up with a magical wishing star to try and take down an evil king, voiced by Chris Pine, who wants to control everyone’s wishes.
In fact, there’s a good chance this movie might work a whole lot better on streaming than it did in theaters – particularly because it is packed to the gills with Easter eggs and references to 100 years of Disney animated history. In case you couldn’t figure out from the concept, this is sort of the origin story of the star that everyone wishes on in Disney movies. This means your eagle eyes will spot all sorts of characters who may remind you of other characters you’ve seen on screen.
That’s why streaming will be so good for this, so your kids can spend way more than the movie’s scant 95-minute runtime pausing and rewinding to try and identify each and every one of the movie’s secrets. Why, you might actually be able to get something done while they’re busy doing that. Who even knows?
Plus, there are new songs and an adorably hilarious goat character voiced by Disney mainstay Alan Tudyk. What are you waiting for? Don’t be wishy-washy. Watch Wish now!
