Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros quickly soared to the top of bestseller lists. Some of that is certainly thanks to TikTok, but it’s also thanks to some excellent fantasy writing. It wasn’t surprising to see the book optioned for a TV series adaptation so quickly.

The Fourth Wing series has been optioned by Amazon MGM Studios. Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society is behind the series with Yarros an EP along with Liz Pelletier for Entangled Publishing, according to Deadline.

Now eyes are on whether the series is going to be one to watch with the kids. We need to look at the book content to get an idea of this.

Is Fourth Wing a YA series?

A lot of fantasy is YA. That means young adults, and usually covers the teenage years. That doesn’t stop adults from reading it and loving it, but the content is focused on milder romance and the fantastical elements and world building.

That is not quite the case for Fourth Wing. There are some steamy romantic moments throughout the book. That means the book is geared more for adults than young adults.

Of course, the series could opt to take a step back from the steamier romance scenes. It is possible to dial them back, although that would cut off some of the fanbase that loves it. It’s a tough call when it comes to creating TV shows based on books.

As it’s Amazon MGM Studios behind it, the series is going to Prime Video. That does mean it’s more likely to be a TV-MA series, so I wouldn’t expect this one to be something to watch with your children. This is just a gut instinct though, and we’ll see more as the series is developed further.

Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros is available to purchase on Amazon.
