If you’re looking for a great Christmas movie to watch with the kids, it’s time for The Grinch. Well, we’re on about the 2000 movie How The Grinch Stole Christmas, starring Jim Carrey.

This is one of those movies that my kids ask for every year. Both the seven-year-old and the 11-year-old want to watch it this weekend, and that’s not surprising. It is a fun ride from start to finish. It also brings up some important topics of conversation this time of year.

And as an adult, there is no way you can’t relate to The Grinch. It’s not that he doesn’t like Christmas. It’s that he doesn’t like the people celebrating it, and I’m there for that!

Why How The Grinch Stole Christmas is the perfect movie with the whole family

Let’s just start with how entertaining this movie is. It’s a fun run of antics. The titular character is always up to something once he comes up with his plan to destroy Christmas in Whoville. Max is also absolutely adorable, and we all love a movie where a dog gets a lot of attention (and definitely doesn’t die!).

At the heart of the movie is a story of love and compassion. Cindy Lou Who doesn’t see The Grinch for the monster that he pretends to be—and yes, he pretends to be this monster. The Whos have villainized him so much that he’s become what they wanted him to be. Why not when you have that happen so often? Cindy Lou sees through it all, and she knows that there’s a heart inside of this green creature.

Cindy Lou reminds us of what it means to be kind. It’s not just child-like innocence, but just a good heart and the willingness to stand out against the crowed. She is the character we should encourage our children to be, even though we can totally relate to The Grinch.
