What’s New On Max For Kids And Family: June, 2024

Max (formerly HBO Max) is the home of adult fare like Hacks, The Sopranos, and much more. So you wouldn’t expect it to be rolling out a lot of new TV shows and movies for kids and families in June. And guess what? You’d be right!

Look, there’s a good chance your teens are as obsessed with House of the Dragon as everyone else. So we won’t pretend that you let the copious nudity, cursing and violence in Westeros to slide a little bit so that your older kids can fight about whether they’re Team Black or Team Green. And with that series returning on June 16, that’s a lot of where this particular streaming service’s focus lies.

There are other adult shows like Fantasmas from Julio Torres, a comedy special from Hannah Einbinder, and a filmed version of the Broadway hit Slave Play. All of those, still not for kids.

So what can families enjoy on Max this month? Ummm… Not much. But! The least liked Chronicles of Narnia sequel hits the service, so that’s something. You’ve also got the first Mamma Mia! before they go again to enjoy if you haven’t watched it since Mother’s Day. There’s also the theatrical version of Marmaduke, in case you ever looked at the one-panel strips in the newspaper and thought “Now there’s something I’d like to see stretched out to 90 minutes.”

Thankfully – as usual – Cartoon Network is here to save the day on Max, with new seasons of shows including Jessica’s Big Little World and Craig of the Creek.

Perhaps most importantly (to me, anyway), the first – and only – season of the Survivor but funny animated series Total Drama Island hits the service this month. If you’ve never checked it out, it’s laugh-out-loud funny and gets pretty weird, but your kids will like it; and you will too.
