What’s New On Max For Kids And Family: July, 2024

Unlike Disney+ or, really, any other streamer, Max (formerly HBO Max) continues to be a confusing one for parents. While it’s chock-full of animated DC superhero shows and movies, for example, I have to personally spend most of my time patiently explaining to my 9-year-old why none of that is appropriate for him to watch.

That’s because the animated movies, like Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Two, which hits the service this month, is PG-13. Or Kite Man: Hell Yeah!, the spinoff of the Harley Quinn animated series, is probably TV-MA. Are they good? I don’t know, I haven’t seen either of them yet. But the point is if you’re flipping on Max to keep the kids busy, you might want to keep one eye on the TV, and one finger on the “off” button of your remote, just in case.

That said, there are still some things to watch this month on the service, in between the latest seasons of 90 Day Fiancée and some truly horrifying-sounding HBO documentaries (Teen Torture sounds very cool to chillax to after a long day at work).

Specifically, Max is getting a bunch of Spy Kids movies, if your kids have never checked them out. And they’re also getting Babe, one of my favorite movies of all time, and the one that turned me vegetarian for 10 years. No joke!

Other than just added legacy titles, Max has also helpfully provided a list of action to watch as a family, including a few DC animated shows. Having just started Batman: The Animated Series with the kids myself, this curated list seems to have been sent out right on time.
