What To Watch This Weekend With Kids And Family May 10-12, 2024: Doctor Who, Pokémon and more
With the world holding its breath for Garfield to hit theaters, there’s nothing really new for kids out cinematically. But on TV? Also not a lot.
That said, this weekend there are two delightful new episodes of Doctor Who, which we highly recommend. Whether you’re an old fan or just curious about the show, this is the perfect time to hop in, no previous seasons necessary.
On the other hand, the Pokémon fanatic in your life will definitely want to check out the second part of Netflix’s latest season. And there’s a little something for Simpsons fans, too.
So let’s get into the rundown of what’s new to watch with kids and family this weekend.
NEW TO STREAMING ON DISNEY+, NETFLIX, PRIME VIDEO, HULU, MAX:
Doctor Who
Doctor Who has always been considered a family show. But what families like to watch in the UK, and what they like to watch here in America are two very different things. Now, the storied series in on Disney+ with a new cast – Ncuti Gatwa is time-traveler The Doctor, Millie Gibson is his companion, Ruby Sunday – and is even more family friendly than ever before. You can read our review for more, but don’t hesitate to check out the two new episodes on Disney+ as of today, they’re a blast.

Pokémon Horizons: The Series
Part 2 of the season takes our Pokémon adventurers to the Galar region for 11 new episodes. Episodes focuses on the duck-like Quaxly, a flying Pikachu, and even a Galarian Moltres. If you know what any of this means: I am sorry.
Where to stream: Netflix
The Simpsons: May The 12th Be With You
It’s yet another Simpsons short, this time splitting the difference between Star Wars Day (May 4, 2024) and Mother’s Day (May 12, 2024) as Marge meets Chewbacca or something.
Where to stream: Disney+
IN THEATERS:
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace 25th Anniversary Re-Release
Enough time has passed that we now love the first Star Wars prequel. And full disclosure, I saw it in theaters four times when it came out. Yes, the bad parts are very bad. But pod-racing and the final fight with Darth Maul are honestly worth spending the cash to see on the big screen.
Dragonkeeper
This Spanish-Chinese animated film stars the voice of Bill Nighy, and focuses on a girl who teams up with a dragon to return a lost dragon egg.
Kung Fu Panda 4
How. How is this still playing in theaters. Who is seeing this? What does Jack Black have on theater owners? We need a full investigation.
