The Umbrella Academy season 4 is finally here. It’s been a long wait for the final season of this twisty time-travel drama, and we all naturally want to jump straight into it. The question is whether that’s something to do with the kids around or not.

You’ve seen the first three seasons, so you know what to expect. This season starts off a little differently, though. The Hargreeves siblings no longer have their abilities, and we pick up six years after the season 3 finale to catch up with where they all are. It’s clear that things will pick up, though. The trailer makes it clear they will get their powers back in some sort of form.

The Umbrella Academy is still rated TV-MA with season 4

While the first two seasons landed a TV-14 rating, that went up to TV-MA for season 3. That’s where it has remained for the fourth season, but is it deserved?

Sex & nudity: This series isn’t heavy in the sex and nudity. There are relationships and moments that are implied, but we don’t see them happen on the screen. It’s a great way to add some shipping in the middle of saving the world.

However, one of the characters has started stripping to make money without his powers. Yes, “his.” One of the male characters has taken to stripping, which adds to the comedic side.

Language: This is on the mild side, but there are some swear words thrown into the first episode. “D**k,” “damn,” and “hell,” are very common in the first couple of episodes. The third season upped the language with the TV-MA rating, but the F-bomb and C-word aren’t dropped in the first couple of episodes of The Umbrella Academy season 4.

This could get worse as the season progresses, though. With the TV-MA rating, this is allowed.

Violence & gore: There isn’t too much violence and gore in the first episode. The characters don’t have their powers, and we’re just learning about where everyone is after six years of living powerless. There is a character who is shot in the head in the first episode, but this isn’t too visual on the screen.

We’re sure to see this upped as the season goes on. After all, it’s the final season of the time-travel drama. We know there are going to be some major fights as the enemy is revealed and the Hargreeves siblings get their powers back.

There is a hilarious moment of violence in the first episode, though. It involves Luther beating up a pinata. Yes, you read that right! It doesn't end the way you'd expect.

Alcohol & drugs: There is some moderate drinking and drug use throughout The Umbrella Academy season 4. We see the adult characters drinking beers while at a party, and a couple of the characters are vaping weed. There’s no gratuitous use of drugs and alcohol; it’s mostly the way they’re living their lives.

Overall verdict: Who is The Umbrella Academy season 4 appropriate for?

While the first couple of episodes are okay for teens, this season is sure to get heavier with the language and the violence. Expect something more on the level of season 3 as we get more into the season. It’s going to be something for 18 and over.
