The Boys Season 4 parents guide: Surprisingly, still not for kids

The Boys is finally back on Prime Video today with the first three episodes of Season 4. And we can confidently say that while the first three seasons of the dark superhero series were not for kids… Well, Season 4 definitely isn’t, either.

Based on the comics by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys takes place in a world where superheroes are the ultimate celebrities. And they’ve used that celeb status to indulge in some of the most depraved behavior known to man. Enter The Boys, a team dedicated to taking down the Supes – and the Vought Corporation, the evil company behind them.

Things get even more complicated in Season 4, and the political satire even stronger as the evil Homelander (Antony Starr) teams up with Sage (Susan Heyward), the smartest person in the world, to try and figure out how to burn America to the ground. Meanwhile, Homelander’s diametric opposite, Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) is dying, and the whole team of Supe-killers isn’t faring much better.

So, let’s get into it. And spoiler warning for the first three episodes, as well as mild spoilers for the entire, eight episode season.

The Boys Season 4 Parents Guide: Explaining The TV-MA Age Rating

The Boys is rated TV-MA for “nudity, violence, substance use, alcohol use, smoking, foul language, sexual content.” And yeah, it deserves that rating.

Sex & Nudity: In the first three episodes alone there are multiple instances of full-frontal nudity, sex scenes, and extremely raunchy conversations referring to sex and sex acts. As the season continues? There’s more of that, including some sex scenes and sexual situations that veer heavily into more fringe kinks and BDSM territory. There are also masturbation scenes, scenes that come close to depictions of rape… Then there’s more sex, more nudity, and… Yeah, it keeps going.

Violence: Non-stop and incredibly graphic. Bodies explode, and body parts get ripped off. People get spattered with blood. A man gets thrown against the wall and explodes. There are mutilations, lobotomies, people getting ripped to shreds by animals, and so much more. At least once an episode, there’s a scene that will make you recoil.

Language: Sensing a pattern here? Also non-stop, with every iteration of every curse word you can imagine.

Drinking & Drugs: Less pervasive than the rest, but there are graphic scenes of drug use in later episodes, characters get drunk, and Frenchie (Tomer Capone) is a drug addict.

Overall Verdict: What Age Is The Boys Season 4 Appropriate For?

Like the previous seasons, this show is for adults only. Sure kids might watch it, and good luck trying to stop them. But this is made for 17 and up.
