3 Supernatural monsters that may be a little too scary for kids

Supernatural is technically a TV-14 series, but a lot of families end up watching it together. There are some monsters that kids will want to hide from. Here are the three scariest.

Supernatural isn’t really made for kids, but that doesn’t mean we don’t watch it with them. This is a great gateway into the horror genre, but sometimes, the monsters can be a little too scary.

This is a series that brings up urban legends, mythology, and somewhat real cases. It gets dark and twisty at times, and it’s worth being prepared for the scariest of monsters before going into it. Here are the three monsters (and their episode numbers) I’d recommend being close to the kids while watching.

The Benders

In Supernatural Season 1, Episode 15, Sam Winchester ended up taken by the “monster” of the week. Only, it turned out that it wasn’t a traditional monster. Dean Winchester found out they were dealing with real people who kidnap humans and hunt them down. It was more Texas Chainsaw Massacre rather than Candyman or Christine.

The idea of humans attacking humans can be a little too much for kids. It’s hard to explain that not all things that go bump in the night are part of the imagination.

The Gibson Children

Supernatural Season 4 brought us another human as a monster. This one initially made us think that the Winchesters were dealing with vengeful spirits, though. As Episode 11 continued, we learned just how twisty and sick people are. The two “ghosts” living in the walls were actually the children of Bill Gibson.

These two had never seen the light of day. They were feral, but in a way, they just wanted a friend. That friend was the little boy who moved into the house with his family. It was up to the Winchesters to find a way to put a stop to killings inside the house.

Hellhounds

The Hellhounds initially turned up in Supernatural Season 2, Episode 8, titled “Crossroad Blues.” They then showed up multiple times after. One thing that makes these monsters so scary is that they are invisible. It leaves a lot to the imagination, and kids can be scared because of that. After all, they allow their own imagination to run wild.

It also doesn’t help that you have no idea who is next. Plus, how can you stop something that you can’t see? When these creatures turn up, your kids will need extra comfort.

There are many other scary monsters in Supernatural. Watch out for the vengeful spirits—especially the children—and some of those darker episodes. This series wasn't designed for children, but they can enjoy it if they like the adrenaline rush or if they're like my two and love to work out what the creature is.
