If your kids fell in love with Disney’s youngest princess, you’ll be happy to hear that she is back. Sophia the First has landed a sequel series, and yes, the voice of Sophia is returning.

Sophia the First was an instant hit for pre-schoolers. It followed Sophia, a young girl who became an instant princess after her mom married the king. The original series, which aired between 2012 and 2018, saw Sophia learn all about being a princess, but also about magic at the Charmswell School for Royal Magic.

Sophia is a little older now, but she still has some learning to do. This has led us to the sequel series.

Ariel Winter will return for Sophia the First: Royal Magic

The Hollywood Reporter announced the exciting news of the sequel series. It will be helmed by Craig Gerber, who created the original series. He also created the spin-off Elena of Avalor. Gerber explained that he wanted to “try something new” when it came to this sequel series. It will add a mixture of emotion and comedy, as Sophia continues her journey to becoming a magical princess.

Ariel Winter will also return to voice the character, despite her being 26. The Modern Family actress has voiced the character from the start, and it will be a great connection back to the original series.

The original series included actors like Kiernan Shipka, Sabrina Carpenter, Sara Ramirez, and Wayne Brady. Will they all return? That hasn’t been decided just yet, and we’ll need to wait for any additional casting.

It does look like the sequel will see Sophia in a new school. She will meet some new friends and learn new skills, bringing a story about teamwork, leadership, and friendship.

There is a change to the format of the series. While the original had 22-minute episodes, the new series will be 11-minute stories, with two stories in one episode. Each of those stories will include a new song for pre-schoolers to learn and enjoy. The idea is that the modern audience needs smaller bites of story, and this will work for them. If you’ve seen how people scroll through TikTok and YouTube Stories, you’ll probably (annoyingly) agree.

No word is on when the series will come to Disney Jr. Sophia the First: Royal Magic is something for parents to look out for, but we’ll keep you noted!
