Sonic Prime parent guide: Why is the series rating for TV-Y7?
Sonic Prime is great fun for those who love Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends. It’s also great fun for those who love multiverses.
The third season dropped on Netflix on Thursday, Jan. 11. If you’re anything like my family, the kids had that date in their diaries. They were not willing to let anyone forget that there was a new season about to arrive.
Of course, if this is a series you haven’t heard of before, you’ll want to make sure that it’s suitable for all ages in your house. Sonic Prime is rated TV-Y7, which is very similar to a PG-rated movie. It works for children seven and over, but it could be suitable for younger ages with parental guidance.
Why is Sonic Prime rated TV-Y7?
The series is a very standard kids program when it comes to action and fun. Think of PAW Patrol and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. If your kids love them, they’re going to love Sonic Prime.
The series sees Sonic head through the multiverse to save his friends. This could be off-putting to some children as they figure out who they can trust. After all, isn’t everyone used to seeing Tails as Sonic’s best friend? In Sonic Prime, he’s Nine, and he isn’t a good guy at all. Younger children could struggle to deal with this at first, but they’ll get used to it. Older children love to see the changes.
There is some action and there are some scary moments. There is some reckless behavior, which is why you’ll want to watch the series with younger members of the family. Those under six may not have the impulse control needed not to copy things on the show. It’s nothing on the level of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie, though.
The graphics are colorful and will draw a lot of younger children in. There are some hilarious moments, and the storylines are engaging. This is something that parents will happily watch with their kids. Well, if you’re a parent like me who loves to see decent kids’ programs, you will! This is one of the better ones.
