There are certainly a lot of shows out there about teenagers, and not all of them are suitable for the teens in your house. It’s important to take a close look at anything your teen puts on.

We’ve looked at shows that aren’t suitable for teens. Now it’s time for some suggestions to make instead of the likes of Euphoria and 13 Reasons Why. There are some excellent shows on Prime Video, Netflix, and more, and we have three great picks.

Netflix brought us Never Have I Ever, a series focused on a young teenager figuring out school and life. Devi is a hot-headed girl with a lot to learn about the world. And that’s what makes her so great for teenagers. She’s relatable to everyone.

The representation is certainly something to support, but this show also has some excellent storytelling. Topics of grief, feminism, and coming of age all come up throughout the series. There may be questions from the teens in your house, but they’re more to understand some tough subjects and not about questionable actions from unrealistic teens.

The Wilds

Prime Video brought us a series about a group of teenage girls who were stranded on an island after their plane crashed. They had to go through the ups and downs of survival, but it was soon clear that there was more to this island. They were being watched, and it was some sort of huge experiment.

This series brings us topics of grief, unreasonable expectations put on teenagers, and figuring out sexuality and interests. While surviving the island, these girls are just surviving the teenage years, and it’s something that a lot of teens will relate to. Plus, representation on this series is excellent.

Derry Girls

Netflix has another great series for teenagers to watch. Derry Girls is set in Belfast in the 1990s. It’s at the time of The Troubles, and we follow a group of teenage girls (and one boy) who are figuring out life as politics happens around them.

There are some hilarious moments, whether you’re following the head nun of the Catholic school or the parents of the teenagers. This show also focuses on handling loss, coming of age, and finding a place in the world.
