Is Renegade Nell on Disney+ your family's next fantasy obsession? The full series is now available on the Disney streamer, but given Hulu content has just been added to Disney+, you might be wary about whether this is actually for the kids. So, let's discuss!

The main storyline of Renegade Nell focuses on the titular Nell Jackson, a female highwayman, aka a robber, who steals from travelers -- and finds herself framed for murder. She then encounters a magical sprite named Billy Blind and determines that her fate will depend on how well she can navigate fighting, her obligations to her family, and creating and maintaining alliances as one of the most pursued outlaws of her time.

The cast includes Louisa Harland (Derry Girls) as Nell, Joely Richardson (One Day) as newspaper magnate Lady Eularia Moggerhanger, Adrian Lester as the Earl of Poynton, Nick Mohammed
(Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget) as magical sprite guide Billy Blind, Bo Bragason as Nell's sister, Roxy Jackson, and Enyi Okoronkwo as Rasselas.

Renegade Nell is produced by British production company Lookout Point TV and was created by British screenwriter Sally Wainwright. Executive producers include Louise Mutter, Faith Penhale, Will Johnston, and Johanna Deveraux.

Renegade Nell parents guide: Explaining the TV-14 rating

Renegade Nell is rated TV-14 for Disney+, which could mean a lot of things -- particularly as the rating covers everything from your run-of-the-mill Marvel or Star Wars series to movies that have popped up thanks to the Hulu integration. So will Renegade Nell have your kids running to the hills for safety?

Sex & nudity: If you're nervous about sex and nudity in this show, you can put your worries to the side. There isn't any nudity or sexual references in this series. The costumes that some of the women in the show are wearing might be a tad bit revealing but nothing that would cause you to turn the TV off mid-episode.

Violence & gore: The series' premise revolves around Nell being framed as a murderer. There is a fight that takes place during a protest early on in the series, but it’s not overly violent or worrisome for children. Even though this is a live-action series, the violence is reminiscent of what you've seen in Disney classics such as Peter Pan and Robin Hood. Robbers are seen as violent aggressors. There are weapons used in the show, so you will see a bevy of guns and knives. Nell is equipped with enough strength to help and is ready to attack. There is a character who gets shot as well.

Language: Nothing too offensive is heard on the show. Language relating to encouraging fighting back is heard but your everyday curse words are not present, which makes this an easy watch if you are unsure about having to cover your little ones' ears during the runtime of each episode.

Drinking & drugs: With a show that takes place in the 18th century, I'd be remiss if I didn't say that you will see a couple of scenes in the series that take place in a pub environment. Characters are seen enjoying drinks and one character is even smoking a pipe.

Overall verdict: Who is Renegade Nell appropriate for?

This series is safe for kids as young as 10 years old, despite the TV-14 rating. Renegade Nell is specifically targeted at young children, which means that you can watch this with your kids and maybe even learn a thing or two from it.

While Nell is classified as a robber, she's a positive role model as she is honest, brave, and committed to staying loyal to her family. It's a great show that your kids will love if they have a growing passion for adventure. There are currently eight episodes in the season so this makes for a great viewing option to binge-watch with the kids!
