The first film in the popular franchise, My Big Fat Greek Wedding was released in theaters back in 2002, directed by Joel Zwick, to favorable reviews and was nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the 75th Academy Awards. The second film, aptly-titled, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, was released in 2016.

The film stars Nia Vardalos as Fotoula "Toula" Portokalos, John Corbett as Ian Miller, Louis Mandylor as Nick Portokalos, Elena Kampouris as Paris Miller, Lainie Kazan as Maria Portokalos, Andrea Martin as Theia Voula, Gia Carides as Cousin Nikki, and Joey Fatone as Cousin Angelo. The film is directed by Vardalos and produced by Gold Circle Entertainment, Home Box Office, Playtone, and Artistic Films.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 follows the remaining members of the Portokalos family who reunite in Greece with their extended family. Led by Toula and her non-Greek husband, Ian, this family-reunion film is filled with love, drama, and a couple twists along the way.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 (2023) Parents Guide: Explaining The PG-13 Rating

Sex & Nudity: A lot of flirtatious activity in the film between characters. You will see people kissing. A couple of sexual innuendos are made. There is a scene where a nude beach is shown, though no frontal nudity is seen. Nudity innuendo is referenced too.

Violence: What's great about My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 is that it's a light-hearted comedy film so instead of seeing heavy or graphic violence, you will instead see some physical/slapstick comedy. There is a scene in which one of the character hits her head on a plane, but does not get seriously injured.

Language: While this film is PG-13, you may think that there is a bit of cursing in the film. There is actually little to no cursing heard in this film except for 'damn' and 'God'.

Drinking & Drugs: Viewers will see the tourists in drink ouzo (A Greek alcohol) and are visibly hungover. Other scenes show adults drinking socially at dinners and parties. You will also see college-aged people drinking in social settings too.

Overall Verdict: What Age Is My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 Appropriate For?

This movie is made for ages 13+ and up. With a PG-13 rating, this film is not offensive and actually encourages some positive messaging for the whole family to learn from. The Portokalos family has such a strong bond and values honest communication, and there is a lot of scenes in the film that showcase that. In addition, viewers are able to see and understand cultural differences between families. Other themes in this film include acceptance of immigrants and refugees too.
