I Woke Up A Vampire Season 2 is finally on Netflix, and it doesn't suck
By Tiara Starks
If you're a fan of Sabrina the Teenage Witch or The Vampire Diaries, you and your teen may be ready for I Woke Up A Vampire, the teen comedy currently streaming on Netflix! And the even better news is that the second season is on Netflix, as of today.
The series revolves around Carmie, an adoptee who is navigating both being a pre-teen and being a teenage vampire who is "half human, half Mythic." Not only is she battling the everyday monotony of middle school, she has to balance using her newfound powers for good, which isn't easy.
The cast consists of Kaileen Angelic Chang as Carmie Henley, Niko Ceci as Kev Gardner, Carmie's best friend, Zebastin Borjeau as Dylan Hesling, who is seeking to hunt down "Blended" kids, and Ana Araujo (Odd Squad, Come Play) as Leanna, one of the girls who mean to Carmie. I Woke Up a Vampire is produced by Tom Lynch Company and WildBrain.
The first season's finale, which aired on Sep. 1, 2023, showed that Carmie's biological mother was revealed to have been an evil Shapeshifter. With a cliffhanger like that, that means that this season should see a rocky start to Carmie's story.
What's great about the series, in general, is that it highlights diversity... Carmie is a mixed-race Asian and Latina teenager. her friends are also from diverse backgrounds such as the Middle East and of African descent. The friends that Carmie has are supportive of her and advocate for her when she needs help. What's also interesting to see is that the lead characters can make quick and smart decisions. There are parents present in this series but aren't fully central to the main storyline.
This second season offers up eight episodes that are currently streaming on the platform. The premiere episode of season two shows Carmie, who is now in high school meeting a sophomore named Tristan while her best friend Kev, is debuting his latest comic book!
Now that you know more about the show and about the second season's premiere episode, it's the perfect time to catch up! If you've already watched all the way through, are you wondering if there will be a second season?
When will I Woke Up A Vampire Season 3 be on Netflix? Will there be an I Woke Up A Vampire Season 3?
As of today, April 4, 2024, I Woke Up a Vampire has not been picked up for Season 3 by Netflix. However, that’s not out of the ordinary, it’s been on the streamer for less than a day. Normally Netflix doesn’t announce pickups until at least 28 days out, so they can get a sense of how well the show is doing over the first month.
That said, we could definitely speculate about I Woke Up A Vampire Season 3, based on what we know about Seasons 1 and 2. Normally shows are released on a yearly basis, so it would be fair to say that if there is an I Woke Up A Vampire Season 3, it could come out in April of 2025.
There’s a twist to all of this, though. Actually, two twists. First, I Woke Up A Vampire is made by Netflix in partnership with Canada’s Family Channel. Meaning it may be more up to Family Channel if they want to create additional episodes of I Woke Up A Vampire, versus Netflix’s choice.
The second twist is that Seasons 1 and 2 on Netflix were actually all one season of the show. The 16 episodes originally aired on Family Channel weekly from May 5, 2023 through September 1, 2023. Meanwhile, the first eight episodes streamed as Season 1 on Netflix on October 17, 2023; while Season 2 on Netflix hit today, comprising the second half of Canada’s Season 1.
Point being, if Family Channel wants to go ahead with what, for them, would be Season 2, it’s possible that it could film and start airing some time later this year. While we doubt given the lack of a pickup announcement that I Woke Up A Vampire will begin airing new Canadian episodes on May 5, 2024 or anything, perhaps by end of 2024 Canada will get new episodes; followed by Netflix in 2025. Fingers crossed!
