Missed Arcane, the phenomenal League of Legends animated series on Netflix? Well, now you don’t have to as GKIDS has acquired the worldwide rights to the series – other than in China – and will be releasing a slew of products around the episodes, including a 4K release of Season 1 of the series.

“GKIDS is thrilled to be partnering with our friends at Riot to bring the global hit series Arcane to fans worldwide,” said GKIDS founder and CEO Eric Beckman via a press release provided to The Parent Watch. “We are MONSTER fans of the series, and our team is having a blast collaborating with the creatives at Riot and Fortiche to put together an amazing package for the fans. This project was dreamt up on the lawn by the lake at Annecy, so we are extra happy to be able to announce this collaboration at the festival and true home of animation.”

Set in the world of Riot Games’ League of Legends, the series revolves around a number of characters, but most notably two sisters: Vi (Hailee Steinfeld) and Jinx (Ella Purnell), who are an opposite sides of a power struggle to upturn the steampunk city of Piltover, which is built on the oppressed city of Zaun.

Full of stunning action sequences and groundbreaking animation, the series punches way above its weight. And while it might skew a little bit older thanks to language and intense fighting, as well as some scarier bits, it’s a series you should not miss – particularly as the second season is finally coming to Netflix this November, after Season 1 premiered way back in 2021.

If you don’t believe me, the show won four Emmy Awards, nine Annie Awards, and has a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, and a 98% from the audience. That’s pretty great!

And now you’ll get a whole new chance to see the series, thanks to the “videogram and digital transactional rights.” GKIDS promises that beyond the 4K release, there will be a “full product array” including both digital and premium editions of the series. More details on this as it develops.
