Since the 1980s, Garfield's Halloween Adventure has been a part of my Spooky Season celebration. It's Garfield, and the cheeky kitty enjoys Halloween as much as we do because there's so much candy involved. Who can say "no" to free candy? Garfield and Odie can't.

The special debuted in 1985 on the CBS Network and has since remained a pop cult icon. It's filled with a dash of spookiness, a bubble of history, jazzy music, and Garfield and his best friend Odie dressing up as pirates. Simply put, it's timeless. Ratings-wise, it was a hit for CBS and scored a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program at the 1986 Emmy Awards. The special was the third one to win an Emmy, with others being Garfield On The Town (1983), Garfield In The Rough (1984), and Garfield Babes and Bullets (1989).

Nearly forty years later, Garfield's Halloween Adventure still provides the treats; for me, it's nostalgic. I grew up with the cat, and each year, the special gets better and funnier because of the hidden jokes and the 1980s humor. The latter is Garfield's perceptual trademark, appetite, and passion for pasta. He has the life of a typical cat but tells the world exactly how it is, as cats do if you tune in to them.

This year, Garfield made a comeback to childhood with The Garfield Movie and gained new fans, especially the children of the originals. It's wonderful to see that Garfield is making new purrs in later generations, as long as Paramount Global and his cartoonist creator, Jim Davis, keep producing new content.
