The final season of Elite is now out. If you haven’t binged it yet, you’ll be looking for the perfect time to do that. This means wondering whether you can watch it with the kids around or not.

Elite season 8 opens with another murder to solve. Like previous seasons, we have storylines in the past and present, as we find out what happened to the victim, who could have done it, and all the relationships among the characters. Of course, there is also how it all ends, as this is definitely the final season of the Spanish Netflix Original Series.

The previous seasons have been rated TV-MA. It shouldn’t be that surprising to find out that Elite season 8 has the same age rating. It earns it within the opening moments.

Why Elite season 8 is rated TV-MA

This has never been a series for younger members of the family. While it is all about teenagers, it’s a series much like Euphoria. It covers some heavy topics, includes a lot of nudity, and focuses on a graphic murder. We break down what to expect.

Nudity & sex: Within the opening moments, we see a naked body. This is the body of a boy who has been killed. Just like previous seasons, the series focuses on many of the relationships of characters in the school. While sex isn’t always graphic and visual, it’s often very clear that couples have had sex. This happens toward the end of the first episode, as two of the male characters have hooked up.

There are some mentions of characters sleeping with others for the sake of sponsorship as they can’t afford the school otherwise.

Language: The series is packed with cursing and foul language. The F-bomb is dropped on multiple occasions within just the first couple of episodes of the season alone. If you’ve watched previous seasons, you know what to expect!

Violence & gore: Considering the weight of the topics in the series, this is on the milder side compared to other elements that make up an age rating. However, there is some violence and gore. The opening moments of the season premiere show us the naked dead body of a boy from the school. There are clear marks and blood on his body, making it clear that he has been murdered.

There are also two characters arrested at the end of the episode as we head back to the present day. They both have blood all over their heads, indicating that they were involved in the murder.

There is a rather graphic murder at the start of the second episode. It starts with one character putting his hand in blood on the carpet and then pans to a boy with his throat visibly slit.

Alcohol & drugs: The opening moments of the Elite season 8 premiere involve a group of students at a party. They are all drinking, and many of them are also doing drugs. One thing that shows which involve rich kids often include is the liberal and social use of drugs, usually cocaine.

Many will point out that this is underage drinking. It’s worth pointing out that in Spain, the students are of age to be drinking. The drug use is still illegal, though.

Overall verdict: Who is Elite season 8 appropriate for?

This series has always been aimed at those over 18, despite it being about teenagers. We see the darker side of elite schools, which includes sex, drugs, and murder. This probably isn’t something that your kids will feel comfortable watching with you. It also isn’t something you’ll feel comfortable with them watching until they’re a little older and can understand right from wrong better.
