The zombie genre is a popular one at Halloween. In fact, when you look at the love for The Walking Dead franchise, you’ll see it’s popular throughout the year. The problem is trying to find a kid-friendly zombie movie isn’t all that easy.
There is one that stands out for parents. It’s a fun animated movie that is suitable for all ages. It’s time to check out ParaNorman.
This is more than just a movie that involves the dead. It offers a lot of life lessons for your little ones to learn.
What is ParaNorman about?
Norman Babcock can speak to the dead, and he tends to prefer the dead over the living. It’s something that he has kept a secret, but that secret is about to come out. Honestly, though, I can relate to preferring the dead over the living!
When Uncle Prenderghast tells Normal about a centuries-old witch’s curse on the town, Norman has to take steps to help. You see, a witch set a curse that would cause zombies to rise from their graves. He will need to push his abilities to the limit if he wants to stand a chance to save the town.
Why ParaNorman is perfect as a kid-friendly zombie movie
This movie does include a few jump scares here and there, but it’s nothing that is going to give children nightmares. It sets children up for the zombie genre to get a sense of what they are and what they want.
It’s the messages within the movie that make this a great kid-friendly zombie movie. Norman has to overcome his fears. While he prefers the dead, he’s not got a full control over his paranormal abilities. It’s not like he’s worked on honing them, and he doesn’t really want to do that at first. He knows that he needs to step up as the only person to save the town.
If your kids love superheroes, they’re going to love Norman as he brings out all the same qualities as the likes of Spider-Man and more.
ParaNorman is available to stream on Tubi, Pluto TV, and STARZ.
