Never say his name three times, otherwise he just won’t go away! Beetlejuice Beetlejuice brings us a mixture of nostalgia and comedy, and it’s great for the entire family.

I just went to see it with my kids. They haven’t even seen the first movie yet, but they loved most of the sequel. There were a couple of moments they didn’t get as they harken back to the first movie and there was a song routine that one kiddo didn’t enjoy, but that’s just simply more about taste than anything else. The movie as a whole was good fun.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is a PG-13 movie for all

The official rating is PG-13, and to be honest, it does live up to that. Just keep in mind that it is also a gothic horror comedy. This could determine whether your kids will love it or not. If your kids have watched other Tim Burton live-action movies, they’ll be fine with this Beetlejuice sequel. And if they’ve watched Wednesday on Netflix, they’ll love seeing Jenna Ortega in another role.

Sex & nudity: There are some innuendoes thrown in here and there, but they will go over the kids’ heads. There is one scene when we know that two characters are meant to be having sex. Everything is done off-screen, though. We see clothes coming off and shadows getting up to things, but nothing is explicitly shown.

Violence & gore: This is where the movie definitely earns its PG-13 rating. It’s a horror comedy, and if you’ve seen the first movie, you know the level of gore that is shown. When people die, they end up in the afterlife in the way that they died. So, if they’ve lost their head, they walk around without their head. If they died with a gunshot wound, that is always on show.

There are a couple of gory moments with various dead characters. However, it’s very clearly all makeup, and there’s nothing on the screen for too long. Possibly the goriest is when one character is putting herself back together, although there’s a bit of humor to that moment as well.

Language: There is one F-bomb uttered but it is bleeped out. The rest of the swearing is on the milder side, such as hell, damn, and other similar words.

Alcohol & drugs: Lydia does have medication to help with her mental state, and we see her take that during the movie. There is also some drinking at parties and just during everyday events. There is nothing gratuitous in the form of drug taking, though.

Overall verdict: Who is Beetlejuice Beetlejuice appropriate for?

If your kids love Tim Burton movies, they’ll love this Beetlejuice sequel. It’s a lot of fun, with a great mixture of horror and comedy. There is a little bit of gore in the afterlife, but nothing that is downright scary. There’s too much to laugh about the way Burton views this afterlife to get scared of it all.
