There are some excellent movies coming to Netflix for the whole family throughout September. Of course, the first of the month is part of a long weekend, and that means looking for something to check out right away for everyone in the house.

The good news is Netflix has something for all ages. There are four (in fact more when you consider franchises) movies that are definitely a must-watch.

Sonic the Hedgehog

Let’s start with the 2020 live-action/CGI movie that we didn’t quite think we needed at the time. To be honest, when the first graphics came out, Sonic was terrifying! The designers went back to the drawing board and fixed things before the release.

It turned out to be great fun. We saw Sonic end up in the real world, figuring out life and also protecting the world from Dr. Robotnik. Of course, part of that is Sonic’s fault as he knocks out the power grid with his own unique abilities.

It’s a fun ride for those who played the games of the past and those new to the franchise. The first movie, Sonic the Hedgehog, is on Netflix on Sept. 1, 2024. It's perfect to get ready for the third installment later this year.

Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit

There are some great movies within the Wallace and Gromit franchise, but one of the firm favorites for children is The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, and it is back on Netflix.

The dynamic duo start their own pest control business, and they quickly land their first client. Lady Tottington needs them to stop a giant rabbit from destroying the town’s crops. Of course, Wallace and another man, Victor, are also interested in Lady Tottington on a romantic level. Has he forgotten about the need to hunt down the rabbit?

The Jaws franchise

At first glance, you may think that the Jaws movies will be unsuitable for the kids. The movies are actually rated PG, although, I’d say PG-13 is more likely for today’s views. Yes, there are thriller moments, but nothing too scary for most kids over 10. If your kids are anything like mine, though, they may ask if there are sharks in the local lakes.

Children under the age of eight may find the three movies in the franchise a little traumatic. This could be a movie night for older kids when the younger ones go to bed. There is a killer shark, but most of the storyline is pretty outlandish and you can play on that with the kids.

The Paul Blart movies

Both Paul Blart: Mall Cop and Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 are on Netflix on Sept. 1, and they’re great for those who love comedy. Yes, this is another PG-rated movie, although PG-13 is more like it. This isn’t a movie heavy in the violence or the language. It’s just a lot of fun. Some of the humor is crude and suggestive, but it’ll go over the heads of younger children.

The movie is one of those crazy storylines that sees a mall being taken over by thieves. It’s up to Paul Blart to single-handedly take them all down, giving kids a great underdog storyline with hilarious action moments.
