Sports fans know Stephen Curry as “Steph”, “Chef Curry” (because he cooks in basketball), or even "him" (the greatest). But according to The Hollywood Reporter, in February of 2026, we will also know the Golden State Warriors star player as an actor and producer?! Curry is another great example of how athletes can excel beyond their physical skills and natural talents. Many of them are also great entertainers and entrepreneurs.
Not a sports fan? You will still love the line-up for the cast of Sony's new film, GOAT, because they come from other TV and movie favorites. Not to mention-- the whole family will be able to enjoy this animated tale together.
According to Deadline, the storyline will be set in an all-animal kingdom with an inner-city feel. Will, an actual goat, is the main character who lives and breathes 'roarball'. Ironically, when he gets the chance to join a famous team, he is not fully accepted as the other animal players.

In the starting lineup of GOAT, we have Steph Curry with a breakthrough role as both actor and producer of the film. Curry is set to voice the character, Lenny Williamson, a giraffe and player on the ‘roarball’ team. Curry won’t voice the main character, but his character, Lenny, will still be an integral part of the team.
Playing the main character, Will, is Caleb McLaughlin (Stranger Things). While he is most well-known for his character, Lucas in Stranger Things, McLaughlin also starred in another sports-themed movie, Shooting Stars, back in 2023.
McLaughlin has a wide range of experience across different genres. From horror to action in Dora and the Lost City of Gold, he is full of surprises and the perfect choice for the cast of GOAT. McLaughlin’s Stranger Things co-star, David Harbour, will also join the GOAT cast as Archie Everhardt, the rhino.
Next in the lineup is Gabrielle Union, who has been capturing audiences on television and in movies since the ‘90s. If you watched TV sitcoms in the ‘90s, you may remember Union as Keesha Hamilton on 7th Heaven, with a few appearances on other shows like Moesha. If those don’t ring a bell, you certainly have heard of her first hit movie, Bring it On (2000), in which she was the leading actress.

Since then, Union has starred in many blockbuster films and continues to wow fans as a fitness advocate. She is married to basketball star Dwayne Wade. Union will play Jett Fillmore, a black leopard, in the new animated movie. Her character will be another star player on the animal roarball team.
Nicola Coughlan, known by many as Lady Whistledown, or Penelope, from the hit series Bridgerton, joins the roarball team as the Ostrich, Olivia Burke. I wouldn’t be surprised if her animated character goes from an awkward and self-conscious stage to a poised and bold one, just like Penelope in Bridgerton. After all, an ostrich probably doesn’t come as a natural to basketball! I have a feeling we will be in for a feathery surprise with her character.

Other renowned stars in GOAT’s all-star cast include Jenifer Lewis (Spellbound, Black-ish), Nick Kroll (SING, Captain Underpants), and Patton Oswalt (The Secret Life of Pets).
Get your jerseys and basketball legs ready, because GOAT is set to hit theaters on February 13, 2026, the same weekend as the NBA All-Star Game.
