For the first time ever, a live-action Scooby-Doo series is in the works. Yes, we’ve had live-action movies, but now it’s time for a TV series. This is most certainly something your kids will be ready for.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Arrow’s Greg Berlanti is behind the new series as an executive producer, and it’s been in the works for more than a year now. It will head to Netflix, which is a surprise to many as this is a Warner Bros. creation. I would have expected it to go to Max instead, but I’m here for a Netflix show as it ends up in front of more eyeballs.
A reimagining of the world of Scooby-Doo
The new series will bring the story of Scooby-Doo and the Scooby Gang in a new way. It all starts with Daphne and Shaggy, who are old friends and are spending their final summer at camp. They end up pulled into a haunting mystery that involves a lonely and lost Great Dane puppy, Scooby.
Where’s Velma? Well, she’s the scientific townie who is ready to prove that the murder Scooby witnessed was not supernatural in nature at all. Then there’s Freddy, who is the handsome and strange new kid in town, which follows some of the backstory set for Fred and Velma, as they were friends initially before the gang got together.
Of course, everyone has their own secrets. As the case gets stranger and scarier, a creepy nightmare continually threatens to expose those secrets.
No casting, but we have showrunners for the Scooby-Doo live-action
The new series doesn’t have a cast attached to it just yet. However, we do know that Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg are attached as creators, showrunners, and executive producers. The two have been linked to some major shows, including Citadel and From.
For those familar with the mystery ladden masterpiece From, it’s going to be From that pulls you in for this specific series. From has that creepy, twisty element to the storytelling. They can do mystery and supernatural drama, so there’s a lot of hope for this Scooby series.
Of course, with all this, there are questions about whether this will be suitable for the whole family. This seems a little darker than the live-action movies that we gotten, so we’ll have to wait to see how the show is developed. With a lot of hope, it’s TV-14 at the most.
