One of the biggest Box Office holiday draws of 2024. Mufasa: The Lion King is now available to stream on Disney+, allowing you to watch the prequel of the Pridelands' greatest king from your home's royal throne. The Disney movie dropped on March 26th on the streamer, right on time for the weekend.

The CGI-animated drama tells the story of a young Mufasa, an orphaned cub who was taken in by a lion pride and became the "brother" of the future reprehensible Scar. Through the eyes of the young cubs, they created an unbreakable bond until it was time to compete for Pride Rock royalty.

For The Lion King fans who grew up on the 1994 2D animated original and at its time of original release, Mufasa initially felt like a threat to the franchise's lore, but it captured the essence of the theme, and that's doing what's right for others, even though it can be stressing. It also clued in on an important character's backstory and how that was used as a building block to explore these characters.

Why Mufasa: The Lion King should be your next weekend watch

Aside from the abundant characters and gorgeous African landscape, Mufasa: The Lion King offers so much more in terms of a family movie. It has nine new original songs and teaches the value of family and the struggles of life.

You'll also have the talents of Beyoncé, her daughter Blue Ivy, and much of The Lion King 2019 original cast will reprise their respective roles as Nala and Simba, with Blue Ivy making her film debut as Kiara- the daughter of Nala and Simba.

Families will enjoy watching the movie together, and if you're like anything like me, you'll make the time for an educational and thorough session by prompting questions regarding problem-solvIng and why point a happened to get to point b. Plus, it's okay to be emotional and informing your children that expressing theirs is not only a natural behavior, but they'll also learn empathy for others.

Having said that, I cried during Mufasa as it released several emotional roller coasters and recalled the memories of my younger days. Now, as an adult, I'm thrilled that kids can experience The Lion King franchise and its legacy. It's a story that will carry on through time and hopefully continue to delight future generations.
