Superhero movies are supposed to be family affairs, right? Well, not all of them. Definitely not Kraven the Hunter.

A lot of Marvel movies are perfect for the whole family to watch together. That may lead to you thinking that Kraven the Hunter is one to check out. Well, sadly, that’s not the case.

Kraven the Hunter follows the titular character on a path of revenge. He’s a man who ended up with powers thanks to a girl saving his life after he was attacked by a lion. While initially growing up to be a hunter, Kraven ends up gaining animalistic instincts and becomes one with many of the animals.

He ends up with a complex relationship with his father but still feels the needs to protect his brother. So, he decides on a path of vengeance to not just become the best hunter in the world, but the most feared. And he’s not your stereotypical animal hunter!

Kraven the Hunter’s R rating explained

Despite being a Marvel movie, Kraven the Hunter is officially rated R. This means that it’s not aimed toward children at all, and it’s going to be easy to understand why when we break down the age rating.

Sex & nudity: There isn’t any sex or nudity throughout the movie, which is rare for an R-rated movie. That’s because of the main focus of the movie, though. It’s all about revenge.

Violence & gore: This is where the R rating is quickly earned. We see a man getting his face slashed by a bear claw, and there are many scenes where people are brutally injured. We see animals and people attacking each other.

This movie is also packed with animal cruelty. This can be upsetting for adults, let alone children!

Language: Kraven the Hunter is packed with swear words. The worst of them is the F-bomb, used multiple times throughout.

Alcohol & drugs: Kraven is given a serum to help him heal after he is attacked by a lion. This is what gives him his power, as the original comics tell us, and it could be considered a drug by some.

There is a scene where a character gets drunk and he has to be carried home by Kraven. This is on the mild side for a movie that involves traffickers, mobs, and vengeance, but it’s worth noting.

Overall verdict: Who is Kraven the Hunter appropriate for?

This is one of those movies that is heavy in the violence, and not in your traditional superhero way. It’s packed with blood and gore, and there are some upsetting scenes with animal cruelty.

This isn’t something for the kids. Maybe some of the 16- and 17-year-olds could sit through it, but it’s aimed toward the adults in the house, and even then, it could be a little heavy in the violence for some!

Kraven the Hunter is now available to watch in theaters.
