There's nothing like watching a good dinosaur chase to start off springtime! In the Netflix series, Jurassic World: Chaos Theory, you'll find that this is just an ordinary day for "The Nublar Six", a group of young adults trying to unravel a mysterious conspiracy that would threaten both dinosaurs and humankind. Season 3 kicked off on Apr. 3 with a full season drop which means you can watch all of episodes right now!
For those who aren't aware, Chaos Theory is set six years after the events in its prequel series, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, and takes place both prior to and during the events of Jurassic World: Dominion. The Nublar Six are voiced by Paul-Mikél Williams as Darius Bowman, Darren Barnet as Kenji Kon, Sean Giambrone as Ben Pincus, Kausar Mohammed as Yasmina "Yaz" Fadoula, Raini Rodriguez as Sammy Gutierrez, Kiersten Kelly as Brooklynn.
In the season 2 finale, it was revealed that Brooklynn struck a deal with Biosyn, and now is no longer a part of the group. With Brooklynn's out, Season 3 will focus on The Nublar Five, who crash land into adventure as they "encounter old (and new) friends, face off against even more lethal dinosaur threats, and deal with the fallout of Brooklynn's stunning rejection of them." For fans of Camp Cretaceous, all except Barnet and Kelly reprise their voice roles from the prequel series. Adam Harrington reprises his role as Lewis Dodgson, the CEO of Biosyn, the genetics company with a remote research facility in the Dolomite Mountains in Italy.
Aaron Hammersley and Scott Kreamer serve as showrunners and executive produce the series along with Steven Spielberg, Colin Trevorrow, and Frank Marshall.
While the Jurassic World film franchise has always captivated audiences with its thrilling dinosaur escapades, Jurassic World: Chaos Theory goes beyond the world that we already know. The Parent Watch sat down with Sean Giambrone (The Goldbergs, Spidey and His Amazing Friends), who voices one of the lead characters, Ben Pincus. In this interview, we learn about Sean's journey into the chaos-filled world of genetically engineered dinosaurs, what it’s like to voice a character in one of the most beloved franchises of all time, and what fans can expect from this high-octane adventure. This conversation is also spoiler free so if you haven't seen any of the latest season's episodes yet, do not be alarmed and read on to find out more before you watch!
You've been voicing Ben for a while now! With Camp Cretaceous, it would be or about four [years]!
SG: Yeah, just right there!
It's so great that Chaos Theory is still going strong. What does it mean to be a part of such a historic franchise and what do you love most about voicing Ben?
SG: With the music, the dinosaur models coming straight from the movies, you just feel a part of something so big. When you got the title cards, that come up at the start. It's from DreamWorks too... It's like, 'I can't believe I'm a part of this.' I know we've done screenings with cast and crew sometimes. We're in a theater and I'm sitting back and I'm like, 'Wow!' I disconnect from it sometimes. I'm just like, 'I can't believe we're here making this'; Growing up being a big Jurassic fan, and now I'm actually with a group of people who all probably grew up the same way watching this stuff. Now we're the ones making it. It's unbelievable to me. I'm just super proud of what it's turning into. It just keeps growing. I thought it was great from the get-go, but now it's just like this season 3 is, I think, the best thing we've done. I really love it a lot.
I'm sure it is so exciting to be a part of because of the fan base! With season two, we left off during a pretty tumultuous time. Brooklyn siloed herself off from the group due to her deal with [Biosyn]. When you read the script for this first episode, what were your reactions?
rest,SG: There was some crazy Ben and Kenji stuff going on right towards the end. I was just curious where we were going because I felt like it was the most mysterious ending to a season yet. I know we're in for a treat. I'm just like, 'What are we going to walk into?' The first episode out, just seeing what's going on with the group with where is Brooklyn going...I just love what they played out. It just really sets the stage for the whole rest of the season. I feel like there's no rest, so I was very excited. From the trailer, what you've seen in that, I was very excited about what's coming up. Not that I knew that at the time, but I'm very excited.
Season 3 will dive into more complexities with survival and the bonds between the characters are going to be super crucial, and even more so now. As you're recording the character's voice, did it feel different from previous seasons and as he's evolving with the rest of the group?
SG: There's a couple of scenes right in that first episode—I don't want to describe this scene too much, but it's stuff that I don't think it would have felt out of character early on, but it's because of the growth. Looking back on it, I'm like, 'Wow, that was a unique moment for Ben.' There's just some trials and stuff in the group that I wasn't expecting to happen ever. Now it's just like, 'Boom, we're doing it!'... It's almost like, we've built up these characters now to ask 'How would they act in this situation?' It was like really trusting the characters and the directors. Sirena [Irwin], she's been with us from the get-go. She guides [us] so smartly through the creation process. There's some big stuff that goes on throughout this whole season, but right at the get-go, there's some crazy stuff, I feel like.
Even if you haven't seen the show, which hopefully people will and fall in love with it, there's some really intense things that happen, specifically with the characters, but also the dinosaur interactions. How has your experience been talking to fans or even just hearing from fans about what they think of the show?
SG: Through just brief interactions, it's usually really positive. They have a lot of that, that guess is on what might happen in things, which is super exciting to hear because there's a lot of accuracy to fans that I'm super impressed by. I'm like, How did they guess stuff that's going on? Then, other stuff that's just not happening, but very exciting. The thing with this show is because it's a TV show, you get a lot of opportunity to delve in with these characters, it really turns into a young adult situation and seeing how trauma affects a group of friends and individuals differently because there's a wide variety of characters and relationships in this show. When I go online to just see what's the talk and what's going on, it seems like a lot of people are big dinosaur fans and or really into the relationships in these characters, specifically.
You answered it with seeing trauma in young adult situations!
SG: You don't know what to expect necessarily. There's like a whole other angle that they're really leaning into. It's just cool!
As a voice actor, you're not physically there. You're not actually experiencing the dinosaur chases. If you were placed into this world, how would you react to these high stake situations?
SG: Oh my gosh, I've been through the process of being Ben. I think I'm getting more confident and I'm having more constructive conversations with people and things like that. In general, I'm very close to Camp Cretaceous Ben more than Chaos Theory Ben. I don't think I'd act like him when...well, you'll see! He has some good moments in this season with that big bod there, whatever. Me personally, when I'm driving across the street and there's cars coming, I'll just stop. I have the deer in headlights thing and my passengers go like, 'You either go or you don't go, but just don't do whatever you just did.' I do it continuously. I think I'd probably do that. If there's a dinosaur, I'd just stop thinking and stand still. I wouldn't be like these people doing barrel rolls and like grabbing prods and taking them back. I think it's very exciting. It's something to admire and maybe one day I'll get to that point, but just not yet.
