The latest Final Destination movie is now out, and it’s everything that we would expect. Final Destination: Bloodlines does not let the franchise down, bringing more grisly death scenes and more. This is certainly not something to watch with the kids, although some teenagers may appreciate the hilariousness of it at times.
Like previous instalments in the franchise, Final Destination: Bloodlines follows a woman who manages to escape death. However, death doesn’t stop, and if you’re marked, you will face your maker at some point in time.
What happens when a family is born, though? That family was never meant to be there, and now death is after everyone!

Final Destination: Bloodlines parents guide: This movie earns its R-rating
The official age rating for Final Destination: Bloodlines is R, just like its predecessors, and it certainly earns it. This shouldn’t be surprising if you have watched the previous movies. After all, the entire franchise has been known for its grisly (and sometimes over-the-top ridiculous) death scenes.
Let’s break down the age rating reasons, though, as this could determine whether it could work for your teens or not.
Sex & nudity: There is none of this throughout the movie. Just like the previous ones, the main focus is on escaping death. However, there are a couple of sexual references, which are normal when you get to 20-somethings gathering together.
Violence & gore: Every death scene is bloody and visual. There are moments of characters being hit by buses or falling from high heights. The Final Destination franchise has never been one to leave death scenes to the imagination, often leaving behind a lot of blood splatter or visual footage of impacts.
In fact, some of the gore is shown in the trailer alone. There’s a scene where a man steps on a piece of glass in the grass and then falls backward, which is when his head gets trapped in the lawnmower. Other moments in the movie include a man having piercings ripped out of him by an MRI machine, and the graphic view of a man suffering from a peanut allergy.
Language: There are some harsh words uttered throughout, which won’t be too surprising considering the death scenes that are involved. The F-bomb is dropped multiple times, along with the S-word, the B-words, and words like “damn” and “hell.”
Alcohol & drugs: There are many people drinking alcohol at a family party and at a function set in the past. Beer and champagne are the two main drinks shown, but there isn’t any drug use.
Overall verdict: Who is Final Destination: Bloodlines appropriate for?
This is certainly a movie that earns its R-rating from the violence and gore alone, but did we really expect anything different? This is part of the Final Destination franchise, and every movie has been graphic and over the top.
While this is certainly not for young children, there are some teenagers who will be used to the type of violence shown. After all, they’ve probably already watched the original Final Destination movies, and they’ll want to see this one. I’d have been comfortable watching this when I was 16-18, but not all teens are into gore, so it’s worth considering what your teenager is like to make a decision with them.
