When you have Orlando Bloom, Paddy Considine, and Sean Bean in the same movie, you know you need to see it. Well, Deep Cover is the movie for you, but is it something to watch with the kids?
Deep Cover, which also stars Bryce Dallas Howard and Nick Mohammed, follows three people who are struggling in life. Two of them are actors trying to find their next break, and the other works for a stockbroker and doesn't fit in at all. They end up being recruited for an undercover op that is only supposed to involve buying black market cigarettes, but their op soon takes them deeper and deeper into London's drug world.
Soon, they find themselves dealing with large-scale criminals and drug dealers, with their lives on the line every single day. Can they figure a way out of the mess? Could this lead to them finally finding their place in the world?

Deep Cover age rating: Explaining the R rating
This latest Prime Video movie has an R rating in the United States. It landed a 15 rating in the UK, though, and I do think that's more appropriate due to the content within the movie. This is something that older teens are sure to find hilarious, which is the way it's intended to be.
Sex & nudity: There is minimal nudity shown and no sex at all. There is a scene in a strip club where women are seen dancing, but that's all that is focused on. There are some sexual references thrown in throughout the movie, though.
Violence & gore: This is on the heavy side, but in more comedic ways than you would usually see in an action movie. There are some graphic moments where characters are killed, such as being run over by a vehicle or shot in the head.
When characters are injured, those wounds are shown afterward. In fact, one of the characters has a bit of a running joke about a fake wound that turns into a real one.
Language: The F-bomb is dropped multiple times throughout Deep Cover. The C-word is also used routinely, along with the MF-word, S-word, and B-words. These are often used as insults toward other characters.
Alcohol & drugs: There are multiple scenes where the characters take drugs, and it becomes a running theme, as the crews have "tasters" to ensure the drugs are "good quality." There are also mentions of drug addiction, with one of the characters being pulled into an intervention, when her friends think that she has gone off the deep end due to lack of work.
Overall verdict: Who is Deep Cover appropriate for?
This is one of those movies made for adults, and arguably, only adults. There is some strong language used from the beginning, and there is a heavy focus on drugs, as the three actors are going undercover in the criminal underworld.
However, everything is written in a light-hearted and comedic way. There are moments that are way too over the top to be believable, and it adds a bit of heart to the drama. Older teens are likely to enjoy it and feel comfortable with the topics covered, but I would wait for younger kids to go to bed before you watch Deep Cover.
