It’s the time of year where kids get to gorge on chocolate and have fun finding the eggs that the Easter Bunny has hidden. This is also a great time of year to spend some quality time with the kids. After all, a lot of workplaces are shut for a couple of days at least.
The great news is there are a bunch of Easter movies out there for the entire family. They’re a fun ride with various types of fictional rabbits, and they’ll certainly add a hop to the day. You don’t have time to watch all of them, so we’ve narrowed it down to the three eggcellent family movies to watch over Easter weekend.
Peter Rabbit
If you haven’t read books by Beatrix Potter, I highly recommend them. That’s where Peter Rabbit originated, and the Peter Rabbit movie brought him to CGI life. James Corden voices the rabbit, and he is just so right for the role considering the amount of mischief Peter ends up getting up to.
Look, all Peter wants is the delicious veggies from Mr. McGregor’s garden. What’s wrong with that? It’s the least that Mr. McGregor can offer after killing and eating his father. After Mr. McGregor suddenly dies, Peter and his siblings and cousin believe that they now have free access to his house, only to find out that there is a bigger foe waiting for them.
Hop
You can’t have a family movie night for Easter without adding Hop to the list. It’s another live-action movie with a CGI bunny, this one voiced by Russell Brand. Beneath Easter Island is a giant factor where all the Easter candy is made. Has the popular rabbit who runs is it getting ready to pass the legacy to his son, E.B., it’s clear that there’s an issue.
E.B. doesn’t want to run the magic. He wants to be a drummer, and so, he heads off on a journey to Los Angeles to follow his dream. It’s a great story about passion, following dreams, and also taking control of your own destiny. It also puts some focus on friendship and sacrifice.
The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe
I know that you probably didn’t expect this movie to be on the list, but the story itself connects to Easter. The celebration is linked to the Christian religion, celebrating the death and resurrection of Jesus, and The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe brings a similar story with Aslan taking the place of Jesus.
The story follows four siblings who are taken from London to Yorkshire as part of the evacuation policies during World War II. While there, they come across a wardrobe that takes them to a magical place, and it turns out the four are destined to save Narnia. There are lessons in sacrifice and hope throughout this movie, and I highly recommend the book collection, The Chronicles of Narnia, by C.S. Lewis afterward.
