If your kids are anything like mine, the live-action Lilo & Stitch movie is one that you must go to the theaters to see. Before you head there, though, you may want to get younger kids ready for what a live-action movie with a creature is like.
Disney has done some great (and not so great) live-action reboots in the past. Here are three that are sure to help prepare your kids for the wild ride. Of course, you’ll also want to watch the original Lilo & Stitch just so they’re prepared for the story. There is a heartbreaking moment even if it is a bit of a fake-out.
Pete’s Dragon
A Disney live-action reboot that is often overlooked is Pete’s Dragon. The 2016 version of the movie brought the dragon to life beautifully, and it moves past the musical that the original 1977 movie was. There are some elements that are updated for the times, but the bulk of the movie is the same, and there’s a nostalgic peace that comes with that.
The visual elements on the dragon will give you an idea of what could be seen in Stitch. After all, I’m sure we all remember how scary Sonic the Hedgehog looked in the first iteration of the live-action! Just seeing something look realistic when it’s been a cartoon for so long can be a little jarring.
Beauty and the Beast
Next up is the 2017 live-action reboot of Beauty and the Beast. Remember that Stitch is an alien who is crazy, wild, and sometimes a little scary. Well, it makes sense that you’d want to prepare your kids for what that can look like, and the live-action Beauty and the Beast will do that with the way the titular Beast looks.
The movie also shows how a Disney movie can be transformed for the modern-day. Very little actually changed in the story, but there were some great additions in terms of songs, and the realistic looks certainly made those fight scenes a little more intense.

Lady and the Tramp
The 2019 remake of Lady and the Tramp is an excellent addition for movie night with the kids. Look, what kid doesn’t love to watch dogs running around on the screen? It’s cute and fun, and that’s often all that the kids need.
I found the story itself entertaining as well, although I know this movie had some mixed reviews. In terms of preparing kids for the live-action Lilo and Stitch movie, it’s going to be a great look at how the animated movies can be transformed into reality.
Lilo and Stitch is out in theaters on Friday, May 23.
